This year’s World Mental Health Day falls on Monday, October 10th. The theme for this year is Building Resilience.
“Building Resilience is developing individual strengths and abilities
to bounce back from the challenges and setbacks that life presents us with”
(Mental Health Association New South Wales Australia)
Now more than ever we have to focus on building resilience within all our social circles. At a community level and at a work level. A sense of belonging and team work can make a person feel healthier, happier and stronger. Happier healthier and stronger people are able to cope more readily in times of emotional, physical and mental stress.
"Building Resilience is developing individual strengths and abilities to "bounce back" from challenges and setbacks that life presents us with. It involves being able to adopt to changes, drawing both on our own strengths and the available social resources to assist us during times of stress" Ted Tierney, Deputy CEO, MHI
On average, if a person works from 18-65, 40 hours a week, they would have spent 14% or almost 11 years of their life working. Take action today and promote mental health at work. Encourage awareness at all levels of your life.
'Our mission is to promote health and wellness at the work level. We want to be a part of the grander scheme to insure we have a healthier and happier future. If you are happier and healthier at work you will not only achieve a more productive, supportive and creative work environment, you will also be playing a part at providing a part of a bigger social support framework. This again is supported in WHO’s ‘Promoting Mental Health’ – “..there is a growing evidence to suggest interplay between mental and physical health and wellbeing and outcomes such as educational achievement, productivity at work, development of positive personal relationships….” Mental Health is Everyone’s Business - Mindwell.
